Sealbook Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Sealbook is made by PlainworkApps ("we"). The short version: everything you write in Sealbook is encrypted and stays on your phone. We don't collect it, and we can't read it.
What Sealbook stores, and where
Sealbook keeps your notes, checklists, titles, folders and settings only on your device, encrypted with a key that only your passcode, your Face ID or fingerprint, or your recovery key can unlock. Your passcode and recovery key are never stored; the app uses them to unlock the key and then forgets them.
Two small settings are stored on the device without encryption so the lock screen can show them before you unlock: your light / dark appearance choice and whether Face ID or fingerprint unlock is turned on. They contain nothing you wrote.
Nothing is sent to our servers. We have no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking.
Permissions
- Face ID / fingerprint: used only to unlock Sealbook, if you turn it on. Your phone's operating system does the check; Sealbook only learns whether it succeeded and never sees your face or fingerprint data.
- Files: used only when you export or import a backup. You choose where the file goes, through your phone's share sheet or file picker.
- Camera: used only to scan the QR code on your Emergency Kit when you recover your vault. The image is processed on your phone and never saved.
- Sealbook does not request your photos, location, contacts, microphone or notifications.
Backups
- Exported backups (
.sealbookfiles) are encrypted. You choose where to save or send them, and they can only be opened with your recovery key or passphrase. - Your phone's own backup (iCloud backup on iPhone, Google backup on Android) includes Sealbook's encrypted vault. That backup is stored by Apple or Google under their privacy policies; it stays encrypted, and neither they nor we can read your notes in it.
- Auto-backup (Sealbook Pro), if you turn it on, saves a daily encrypted copy to your own iCloud Drive (iPhone) or Android backup (Android). It is stored in your Apple or Google account and is just as unreadable to them and to us.
Purchases
Sealbook Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play, which handle payment. Sealbook checks with the store, on your phone, whether your account owns Sealbook Pro. Apple's or Google's privacy policy covers that exchange. We never see your payment details.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your phone until you delete it in the app or uninstall Sealbook. Deleted items stay in Trash for 30 days and are then removed for good. If you turn on "Erase after 10 failed attempts", the vault on that phone is erased after the 10th wrong passcode.
We keep no copy of your data, so we can't recover it, read it or delete it for you, and we can't reset your passcode. Your recovery key can.
Children
Sealbook is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We don't collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Selling information
We don't sell or share personal information, because we don't collect any.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and the policy in the app.
